After becoming a PADI Open Water Diver (in a cold dark lake in Kentucky) he was a diver and lifeguard at Walt Disney World where he conducted maintenance and search and recovery dives in the EPCOT Resorts area. A couple years later Jamie took his PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course during a spring break trip in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
"The Biggest Mistake I ever made was waiting so long to continue my diving education. Once certified I thought I could do anything underwater and had a lot of time underwater, but once I achieved additional ratings and education, it was clear that the Open Water class just scratches the surface." - James Chandler
Living in Colorado at the time he completed his PADI Rescue Diver, PADI Master Scuba Diver, PADI Divemaster, and PADI Assistant Instructor, Emergency First Response Instructor and worked on staff at A-1 Scuba and Travel Center in Denver, Colorado. Permanently returning to Florida in 2005 he completed his training to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor in January 2006. Since then he has continued his professional education, obtaining his Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating in 2007. In 2008 after becoming an IDC Staff Instructor he can teach every class from Open Water Diver thru Assistant Instructor and over 20 different Specialties. Jamie recently completed the requirements to become a PADI Master Instructor, the highest instructor rating in the PADI System.
Jamie has been an Emergency First Response Instructor since 2004, and is now an Emergency First Response Instructor Trainer.
Prior to the formation of SCUBA OUTFITTERS OF NAPLES, Jamie was an instructor at Naples Dive Center and has certified over 250 students in the sunny warm Florida waters.
Jamie has dived in such dive destinations as Australia, all three Cayman Islands, US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Mexico, all over Florida, Colorado, and Costa Rica to name a few.
Jamie has a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from West Virginia University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Denver, College of Law, and remains a loyal Mountaineer fan.
In his spare time he likes to...well, he has no spare time. But if he did he would travel more.

Not bad. Vis was OK but there was some surge. Beach diving is more challenging than from a boat. Guess I am spoiled.
The following Monday Matt and I dove a ledge about 5 miles off Dr. Pass that was full of sea life. Vis was great even with the stiff east wind. Went back on Tuesday but wind had shifted and vis sucked.
We had a great and fun time for our open water certification even though the waves were high! We were able to complete our testing at Jewels Undersea World which offered us a safe haven from the waves! Looking forward to diving again! Congratulations on the birth of your son!
Maybe later on, just want to dive for fun for a while and get used to the area. We will be in with her Saturday. Want to see what is involved with the shore dive specialty for the Shark Tooth dive. See you then.
Thanks James, she is 20. I was a Dive Master for a shop in Utah prior to moving here and took her through a Discover a couple years ago. It freaked her out a bit and she never got certified. I think (hope) she is ready now.
I'm looking forward to my open water diving class!! It was a pleasure meeting everyone today and I must say that I was very happy to win the Atomic fins!! Mucho Gracius! Congratulations on your grand opening!
It was a great wekend in the Keys. Flat calm seas, no wind, and unlimited visibility, best conditions I've seen since October. The air temp was in the upper 70's both days which made up for the balmy 69 degree water temp. Nothing an extra layer of neoprene couldn't solve.
Every kind of creature imaginable was out including several nurse sharks, Goliath Grouper, large schools of various tropical fish, several large rays, and a few turtles, even one with a gimpy arm (awwe

This is somthing Conchs have been saying for a decade now, but the latter is the new saying. At 10:21 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 the USNS General Hoyt S. Vandenberg went from former Naval Ship to Artificial Reef. At a cost of 10 years and over 8 Million Dollars, the ship is finally sunk after many false starts before. But what a bang for the buck.
The ship was sunk by detonating two waves of charges below the waterline which caused the ship to fill with water and sink straight down. Abov… Continue
