John is SCUBA Outfitter resident water baby. He started swimming competitively and playing water polo as a little boy growing up in California. He earned his PADI Open Water certification in a quarry in Pennsylvania while attending summer courses at the United State Naval Academy. The next summer he earned his PADI Advanced Open Water in the same quarry.
Thanks to all the summer courses, John was able to graduate from the Academy in 1991. While serving in the U.S. Navy he was able to dive in various places around the world. In fact, he had to meet his first ship in Australia and he was forced to live in Hawaii for three years.
After he resigned his commission in 1997, he traveled to Fort Lauderdale to earn his PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer Instructor certification. John worked in Key Largo for 2 years, before he met his future wife, Pamela, on board the dive boat where he worked. Pamela tried to get him to grow up when they moved to Naples. He became a Middle School and High School Math teacher and a part-time SCUBA instructor.
Fortunately, she did not succeed and he is bringing his educational and aquatic experience to SCUBA Outfitters as the Training Manager. So far, John has logged over 1500 dives and certified over 500 divers.
