Again we had a boat full of folks diving in the Gulf both off the beach and aboard Megalodon Charters on Sunday, July 11.
EVERYONE found teeth, including some larger Shark's teeth. The visibility was wonderful, as we could see the bottom from the surface, about 20 feet!!
We look forward to our next Shark's Tooth dive Sunday August 1. The last few months we have had folks not book until the last minute and the spaces are sold out. To avoid this call today to book your space.…

Hey Mike,John, Chris, Jamie, Terri, Tom, Laurens, ANYONE? Help! Can you give me a hint what I might have knelt in/on when we were at Christmas Tree Caves? The welt on my knee not only didn't go away but it seems to be spreading Kind of looks like poison ivy but it's not itchy. I'd like to give my local/land-locked doctor a hint if I have to get an appointment. I've been taking Bendryl and applying Ivy Dry in hopes that it will dry up, but no luck so far. And if you tell me it's fire coral I'l

Recently I signed up for scuba lessons. Call it mid-life crisis. Maybe I’m just getting one more item off my “someday-I’m-gonna” list. Maybe it’s a Sea Hunt flashback. I argue that with ready access to a condo in south Florida it’s a logical skill to hav

Our adventure began with a waking by our flight crew aboard an Air Pacific 747-400 beginning our initial descent into Nadi (pronounced Nan-di) International Airport. As we land under the cover of darkness we can tell we are definitely in a different world. By the time we clear customs and exit the airport the sun is just coming up about 6 a.m. on Thursday April 8. Our Chariot awaited with our driver Ali, to take us the approximately 150 kilometer journey along the South side of Vitti Levu to…

Just arriving back in the states it makes me want to go back to Fiji.
I have just spent the past 12 days in the island nation, and what an adventure.
Fiji is one of the greatest dive destinations on earth, and the 17 dives that I did there proved it.
Fiji is a mountainous wonderland, formed over millions of years by mostly now dormant volcanoes. The shores are mostly rocky, but there are some white sandy beaches. The hills have streaming waterfalls

this week the scuba clinic was about buoyancy and how to make a full circle while hovering , Mike really does make it enjoyable and show's you how to do it and all the benefit that come from doing it right . Let's face it when you are on the boat ready to go , who wants to do skill ! all we want to do is slip in the water a have fun and bye bye skill .Here when done in the pool you only concentrate on the skill at hand and discover what it is you're not doing properly so when when you're on…

It was a great wekend in the Keys. Flat calm seas, no wind, and unlimited visibility, best conditions I've seen since October. The air temp was in the upper 70's both days which made up for the balmy 69 degree water temp. Nothing an extra layer of neoprene couldn't solve.
Every kind of creature imaginable was out including several nurse sharks, Goliath Grouper, large schools of various tropical fish, several large rays, and a few turtles, even one with a gimpy arm (awwe

OK. So my big plans for diving in Feb. or March have been "tanked". It's too cold !! Had to change my plans to go to Epcot in April also but I am definitely doing that in September. Already have reservations at the Polynesian Resort for that weekend. Trying to figure out when I CAN make my next dive, gonna have to visit the shop's pool beforehand I'm sure. But I want to do the advanced course - I'm looking at June - and need to brush up since I'm still a new diver, blah blah. I said bon voyage t…

It was a year ago in January 2009 that I can remember going to Scuba Outfitters Grand Opening. Naples is such a small community and the advertising and messages of "things to do" are often echoed through familiar friends and a network of acquaintances. I went with the anticipation of trying "Discover Scuba" and even though Scuba Outfitters heating element in their pool went on the "fritz" for their Grand Opening, I went in anyway...donned a wetsuit and dove in with Jamie! What a blast it was! I…

Mike’s Scuba Clinics
Scuba is a sport, right? To play sports really well you must practice, right? When was the last time you “practiced” your sport of Scuba Diving? You’ve probably never “practiced” Scuba Diving. Over 75 percent of divers including “Advanced” divers have never practiced their skills since their Open Water class. Every professional athlete practices for hours every day so when game day comes they can perform to near perfection. So should we. When your next dive comes woul…

Jan 1, 2010. My heart and soul are under the sea ! I am walking on land but when I look at the photos of everyone diving and I see the unbelievably wild and amazing aquatic world in those pictures I just want to squeeze into that wet suit, strap on a tank, and jump in the water ! Alas, I have chosen to undergo some surgical "enhancement" and have had to eliminate some of the more strenous activity for a while in order to gain a couple pounds and then for my recovery afterward. Of course I'm goin…

Breathing Heavy: How to reduce your gas consumption
by Cameron L. Martz, ACSM H/FI
For some divers, being the first to hit turn pressure means nothing more than a good-
natured jibe from dive buddies once back on the boat. For others, a high rate of gas
consumption stands as an obstacle to their full enjoyment of diving.
There are more ways to solve this problem than just throwing a bigger tank on your back.
That o…

Congratulations to Ronnie, Mike, and Mike (we wont mention the nickname) on getting open water certified this weekend. They all did a great job considering the conditions. Now that they have experienced dives like these diving from now on will be easy. Everyone on Sunday burnt a ton of calories and received a great leg and arm workout on the wreck of the Tracy. The second dive on Sunday was a shallow drift dive on a reef called Oakland Ledges. A few divers found lobster but they were very few an…

Dives #5 & 6 (and counting!). We dove the Wreck of the Tracy - my first experience with a strong current and deepest dive so far - 69'. It was exciting going hand over hand down the mooring line to reach the ship. John patiently guided me & Ashleigh to the wreck. They say the viz was 40' but it was darker than my previous dives and felt like nighttime to me - it was really cool, amazing how the blues and purples popped out though, and the way those big schools of fish just seem to hang o…
